MEET THE PRESIDENT
Jonathan G. Smith, D.Min., Ph.D.

Welcome to Aidan University!
I want to be the first to welcome you to Aidan University.
We deeply desire to cultivate a community of learners who think Christianly, live ethically, create imaginatively, disciple others, and offer every vocation as an act of worship.
This vision grows out of our conviction that education is about more than acquiring information or earning a credential to advance one’s career. Christian education should shape and form us, helping us become the people God created and called us to be.
Throughout the history of the Church, Christians have thought deeply about God and the world He created. Over time, this reflection gave rise to a distinctive vision of education known as the Christian intellectual tradition. Aidan University stands firmly within this tradition.
Our namesake, St. Aidan of Lindisfarne, believed that the formation of God’s people began in local Christian communities. From those communities, he sent people throughout England and Scotland, carrying with them both the Gospel of King Jesus and the gift of education.
Today, we are striving to do the same.
Our desire is to come alongside you and walk with you on the journey to which God has called you. We want to equip you to serve wherever He leads and to become the person He is calling you to be. We do this by recognizing prior learning and life experience, offering distinctive learning pathways, and providing a variety of programs designed to help you pursue your long-term goals. More importantly, we hope Aidan’s educational distinctives will contribute meaningfully to your growth as a faithful follower of Jesus Christ.
My vision is to raise up ambassadors of Christ who go into the world proclaiming His Kingdom and, through the Gospel, helping to set right what sin has turned upside down. We recognize that this work does not happen only in the pulpit. It also happens in classrooms, businesses, hospitals, law-enforcement agencies, boardrooms, homes, churches, and wherever else God calls His people to serve. That is why we offer a wide variety of programs for a wide variety of callings.
At Aidan, you will discover how the arts, ethics, imagination, discipleship, and worship belong together—and how they apply to every area of life.
So whether you are a prospective student discerning your next step, an alumnus seeking to remain connected, or a friend considering investing in our mission, I invite you to become part of the Aidan University community.
If you feel called to learn, grow, and serve within Christ’s Kingdom, join us as we seek to become faithful ambassadors of Christ—transforming ourselves, our communities, and our nations for the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Kingdom.
Together, let us proclaim Christ’s Kingdom and set the world right side up.
For Christ and His Kingdom,
Dr. Jonathan G. Smith
President
